Optimize for: smooth motion suits games and video, sharp detail suits text and code. Encoder: VP9 gives the best picture; H.264 uses the graphics card and the least CPU. The picture is only as sharp as the screen or window you share.
Everyone in voice gets your stream directly from your PC, so a higher resolution or frame rate uses more of your upload speed (1080p at 60 fps uses up to 9 Mbps and 1440p at 60 fps up to 16 Mbps per viewer). For text and code, a high resolution at 30 fps is a good fit. 120 fps also needs a 120 Hz screen and a strong graphics card.

Encryption
Messages and files are stored encrypted.
Your key is locked with your login password, and new members are let in automatically. That keeps the stored messages and files unreadable to anyone who gets hold of the data, but whoever runs the server could still let themselves in.
Your key fingerprint: …
Voice and video
Sends your voice, camera and stream through the relay server, so the other people in the call never see your IP address. Needs a relay on the server, and adds a little delay.
Design
Colours
Or pick any colours
Pick any two colours and the whole app follows. The text colours are worked out for you so everything stays readable. The presets above are just quick starting points.
Effects
The code rain behind the windows (clouds in the Minecraft theme). Turn it off for a plain background.
Blinking cursors, speaking bars, spinners and name animations. Off keeps everything still.
Time of day (Minecraft theme)
The day lasts 10 minutes and follows the clock, so everyone sees the same sun and moon.
Window layout
Drag a window here, or by its title bar in the app, to where you want it: onto another window to stack it above or below that one, or into the thin gap between columns (or at either end) to give it a column of its own. With a window selected you can also use the arrow keys. Resize with the dividers in the app; double-click a divider to reset it.
Size
The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.
Your choices are saved on this computer and apply everywhere in the app.
Devices and volume
Camera
Your camera is off when you join. Turn it on with the Camera button in the voice window; everyone in voice sees it as a small tile in the stream area.
Voice processing
Removes steady background noise such as fans and keyboards.
Stops your speakers from being picked up by your microphone. Not needed with headphones.
Keeps your volume steady whether you speak softly or loudly.
Sound quieter than the white line is cut. The bar moves while you're in voice or testing your microphone.
Equaliser for your microphone
Test
Shows your microphone level (with your input volume applied). Nothing is sent to anyone.
Plays through your chosen output device.
Messages
A sound for new messages, plus a pop-up when this tab is in the background. Nothing plays while your status is Do not disturb.
On: only messages that @mention you make a sound or a pop-up.
Off: the sound only plays when this tab is in the background or another window has focus.
Voice sounds
The sounds are made right here in the app, so there are no files to download. Each one can be switched off on its own.
